Anna

When Anna sent me an email saying she wanted to do a session with me, I fired one back saying “when and where.” I met Anna this summer when I photographed her in Lloydminster. She’s now sporting a shorter ‘do, is looking fabulous (as always) and wanted to get some more photographs done.

If you are like most of Alberta and Saskatchewan this winter, then it’s brown and fairly yucky looking outside. We hummed an hawed over where to shoot. Both of us had the awesome idea to approach the root: community emporium. This is an awesome space in Lloydminster and I encourage you to visit. I’m thinking of renting it this summer for some sessions…..more on that later though.

In the meantime – I wanted to post a few fun images of Anna. I love working with her – she’s fun, laughing and beautiful to photograph.

Bull sales

Most of you know I come from a ranching family. These days I only seem to make it to one bull sale a year….my aunt and uncle’s sale in Lloydminster – the Hill 70 Quantock Barn Burning Bull Sale (their first sale barn burnt down several years ago….only a day after the inaugural sale was held) thus the name.

I thought I would pass along some images of my little girl at her first bull sale. The day ended with her in the hospital with the flu – so I’m sure her memories won’t be great. My sister took care of her for me while I photographed buyers.

Davina and J.R.

Things I love about Davina and J.R. …….they have a beautiful toddler, Sawyer – they make great neighbours and friends and they are an awesome couple.

I met both through my husband and over the last year and a bit – we’ve spent quite a bit of time together. We’ve spent hours in each other’s homes with our babies and dogs enjoying suppers, visits and laughs.

I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding in the Mayan Riviera. Over 50 of their friends and family joined them for a week of sun, cocktails and great memories.

Enjoy…. (slideshow below)

I think I’ve finally got the all the lenses I need (for the time being). I know my husband is hoping so. As I’ve perfected my style of photography, I’ve settled on four lenses that complete me! I have two primes and two different zooms. I sold off three lenses a few weeks ago that just didn’t get used and purchased my latest baby on eBay. It arrived today.

My 10-month-old daughter is often the subject of my trial and errors. She has been on the move for a few months now and isn’t shy about posing….or getting all up in my face.

Today – all she wanted to do was touch.

Dating Diaries

I’m pretty sure most of us girls have stories to tell about our dating lives. I have brides who’ve married their high school sweethearts to women who’ve donned a few battle scars in the dating world and are in their 30′s and 40′s.

Myself? I was a 32 year old bride…..with a 31 year old groom (I’m four months older). I strongly believe that every past relationship helps mould us into the type of person we want to be when we meet our future partner.

A friend of mine was thrust into the dating world this year after a relationship didn’t work out (she’s awesome by the way for any of you single men that may be reading this….). As dating can be fun, scary, baffling and hilarious….she decided to blog about it. She recently posted about the last 12 months of dating. It’s a great read and I’m sure we will all see a little of ourselves in it…..I know I did.

Checking my website stats

Checking my website stats is a little like Googling myself….only this is legit business work – or so I tell myself. My hits always spike the day after a wedding when all my awesome brides and grooms’ family and friends check out their images.

There are also some cool surprises and I have to creep on just where my visitors are coming from. One is a blog titled Champagne and Lace: A Two Bride Wedding. I love that this couple are writing about the planning and hurdles of their upcoming wedding. The link came from a photo of one of my beautiful brides from earlier this year. Jessica Wilkinson is a maid of honour for one of the brides. I love the photo that they used of her. It’s my favourite!

Posting a blog on your wedding is a great way to get friends and family excited about your special day. It’s tons of fun and makes for great memories long after the day is over.

I will be following this couple for sure….

Hutchinson House Concert

This was a first for me. A house concert! Our friends April and Jordis hosted a house concert for their friends that featured three artists….

Dave McCann, John Wort Hannam and Leeroy Stagger….three Southern Alberta songwriters who come together once a year to tour a Nashville Bluebird Café style of song swap.

These guys are awesome. It was such a cool, intimate experience to sit on the floor and listen to great music.

Highlight video – 2011 weddings

Where do I even begin to describe the year I had?

Baby Jane arrived on the scene March 7 and I photographed my first wedding less than four months later in Lacombe. From there it was a whirlwind of amazing and beautiful brides (and their men), incredible bridesmaids and really, really fun groomsmen.

Memories…..lots of dogs! So many couples opted to have their fur babies take part in their weddings….which I think is so cool (Molly, our Shih Tzu, was the center of our world until a crying baby came along).

I had brides delivered via helicopter, limo, horseback, dirt bike and truck. There was intense heat and cool weather and wind. I’ve learned that Medicine Hat has LOTS of wind!

But what I remember most are the couples that put their faith in me to be their photographer. I love what I do professionally, but what I get out of this personally is so amazing. The little notes and emails that I receive totally make my day (which takes very little to brighten as I’m covered in baby food and poop most times).

The best part ever…..my brides are people I’m proud to call my friends.

I hope you enjoy…
