Davina and J.R.

Things I love about Davina and J.R. …….they have a beautiful toddler, Sawyer – they make great neighbours and friends and they are an awesome couple.

I met both through my husband and over the last year and a bit – we’ve spent quite a bit of time together. We’ve spent hours in each other’s homes with our babies and dogs enjoying suppers, visits and laughs.

I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding in the Mayan Riviera. Over 50 of their friends and family joined them for a week of sun, cocktails and great memories.

Enjoy…. (slideshow below)

Where do I even begin to describe the year I had?

Baby Jane arrived on the scene March 7 and I photographed my first wedding less than four months later in Lacombe. From there it was a whirlwind of amazing and beautiful brides (and their men), incredible bridesmaids and really, really fun groomsmen.

Memories…..lots of dogs! So many couples opted to have their fur babies take part in their weddings….which I think is so cool (Molly, our Shih Tzu, was the center of our world until a crying baby came along).

I had brides delivered via helicopter, limo, horseback, dirt bike and truck. There was intense heat and cool weather and wind. I’ve learned that Medicine Hat has LOTS of wind!

But what I remember most are the couples that put their faith in me to be their photographer. I love what I do professionally, but what I get out of this personally is so amazing. The little notes and emails that I receive totally make my day (which takes very little to brighten as I’m covered in baby food and poop most times).

The best part ever…..my brides are people I’m proud to call my friends.

I hope you enjoy…

Tyrell and Danielle

I was so excited to photograph Tyrell and Danielle Sears’ wedding on 11-11-11. Firstly, it’s a cool date. Secondly, this is a cool couple. When I sat down with them to go over the details of their day, I couldn’t stop laughing at how these two have fun together. They get each other’s jokes, laugh at themselves and generally make a sweet pair.

Tyrell works on the family feedlot near Nanton and Danielle is a Grade Three French immersion teacher in Okotoks. They met at Bar None in Edmonton. Six months later, Tyrell proposed. Two years after they met, they were married in Medicine Hat, Danielle’s hometown. They had the most incredible group of family and friends to celebrate with…a tribute to how wonderful these two are.

Bud and Krystal

The first time I met Bud and Krystal, it was for their engagement session this summer. There was a downpour of rain….but I had some cool ideas in mind. I knew these ideas would only work if the couple was cool, fun and willing to get wet. Luckily, they were all of the above. The image that stands out most in my mind (and the one they used in their reception photos), was a black and white photo of the two of them in the rain kissing. I love it. After that session was over, I was so excited to play this part in their wedding.

Bud is quiet. Krystal is cute. They are young and in love…everything that we all want to be. Their bridal party was also all sorts of awesome. When I went to photograph the boys getting ready,  I was greeted at the door by the cutest little man, Cruz. I then met the rest of the cute men…only they were a lot taller than three-year-old Cruz. Krystal’s ladies are fun, friendly and looked hot in their stiletto Guess shoes.

When Krystal was getting ready, her nephew Easton said to her, “Auntie, if you fall in your shoes – I will hold your hand.”

This is a group of people that made it so easy for me to spend the day with them.

Krystal put so much work into her wedding. She made most of the decorations for the reception herself. I cannot begin to describe how beautiful they were. The dance floor feature warranted it’s on blog post in itself. If she ever wanted to go into decorating or wedding planning, she would have a line-up of brides out the door. The Stettler hall was transfered into a room that no one had seen before. It was stunning. The food was awesome. The music was pumping (ACE Entertainment) and the MCs were fantastic. It was an amazing night.

I hope you enjoy this little taste of Bud and Krystal’s special day.

Mike and Staci

I posted a few shots just after Mike and Staci’s wedding with a promise to post more of their story. I first met this couple at this time last year for their engagement session. After a year of being friends on Facebook, you kind of have an idea of what people are like….until I heard Staci’s dad’s speech. I won’t go into details, but it involved a tab during college when she met Mike. It was pretty awesome! They met at Olds College and have been soul mates ever since. They are just so sweet together. Their families adore them as a couple and they have the funnest friends (I’m pretty sure that’s not a word). In fact, I even got invited to sit at the table of some of Staci’s family friends. The daughter is the most amazing jazz singer. She performed at the ceremony and it was fabulous.

I walked away from the reception feeling like I belonged there…like I had known Mike and Staci for far longer than my time photographing them. That speaks highly for the kind of couple they are….fun, personable, in love and just awesome people.

Enjoy….

Greg and Jennifer Morrison

I’ve known Greg for a few years. He is a friend of my husband and is one of the kindest, nicest men I know. Jennifer grew up with Ben and truly is one of the most stunning brides I’ve met. We were friends on Facebook but never had the chance to meet face-to-face until her wedding day.

Their’s is a whirlwind romance where the next chapter of their lives began on a cliffside on her family ranch just west of Nanton. Jennifer arrived by helicopter to face Southern Alberta gale-force winds as she stepped out on the arms of her dad. Only a handful of people were honoured to witness the marriage of these two fantastic people. Intimate weddings are always so, so special. Having their ceremony in such a unique spot was the icing on the cake.

Enjoy their story….

Shyla and Kris

I had no idea where to begin and where to end when it came to posting Kris and Shyla’s wedding photos. There are so many fantastic images to choose from that I went a little overboard here.

I’ve known Kris since high school. We went to different schools but we had mutual friends and met through them. I met Shyla randomly when she joined her friend Victoria on her photoshoot last year. I absolutely had to grab a couple of frames of Shyla during Victoria’s session. Shyla was so breathtaking (inside and out) that I had to grab  some shots of her. She then told me that she was engaged to Kris and we talked about what a small world it was.

Fast forward to last Friday. I was so honoured when Shyla asked me to be her wedding photographer. I was excited for so many reasons. First, I adore Shyla and Kris. They are the couple so many look up to. Secondly, I love the people they chose to be in their wedding party. It included a couple of cousins of mine, old friends and now new ones.

Enjoy this snapshot of Mr and Mrs McKechnie’s wedding day….
