Chris and Karlee

I met Karlee through work. She is in communications with Alberta Milk and I’m in communications with Alberta Beef Producers. We put on a media tour together last year and I instantly liked her. So, I was totally thrilled when she emailed me about being her wedding photographer to her very cute, soon-to-be-husband Chris. The couple chose the most intimate of ceremonies with only 11 people looking on. It was at Karlee’s farm east of Carstairs surrounded by huge, lush trees and her family’s beautiful heritage home. I LOVE small weddings. I get to spend time making sure I capture everyone on the day and really get a feel for the type of couple they are.

Chris’ family (and best man) flew in from Ontario for the occasion. His twin sisters delivered the most moving speeches, bringing many people to tears. He is such a warm (and cute) person and I can see how these two bring out the best in each other.

Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of this special day. It was truly an honour to be your photographer.

Brett and Jole

Jolene and Brett Welsh picked probably the hottest day this year to get married. It may have been a warm one, but it was perfect for their outdoor backyard ceremony.

To begin, this is the first wedding I’ve photographed where the bride was doing hair at the salon! Jolene is a stylist and was working on her mom when I showed up. There were people walking in and out with congratulations and well wishes….a tribute to both the couple and the small Nanton community of people.

I was then able to dash over to the local Esso restaurant to grab a few shots of the boys having some breakfast before embarking on the big day ahead. I was able to see my old buddy Steve, one of the groomsmen. I met him the Saturday before when he stood up for another friend. I highly recommend Steve if you are in need of an attendant. He’s polite, dresses well in a suit and will be a hit with the bridesmaids.

This is a couple that loves their dirt biking. The boys hoped on for a few shots and were able to show off their maneuvers.

By the end of the day, I’m sure the cold beverages were flowing and the dancefloor was hoping. Jolene and Brett had an amazing group of family and friends to help them celebrate their day. After so many years together dating, everyone was incredibly happy to see them embark on this next adventure together. I wish them all the best on their journey.

I hope you enjoy this little taste of their wedding day….

Mike and Stacey

Back in January I received an email from Stacey wanting to meet to discuss the possibility of me doing her wedding photos. We meet at a restaurant and she orders a caeser. This is my favourite drink and I was massively pregnant at the time. This was my first jealous moment with her. There were many more to come when I toured her family home just west of Calgary and when I got to meet her fantastic sisters and family.

I was honoured to be chosen to be her photographer for her wedding with Mike. He is such a fantastic person with the cutest little sons and is such a fun and down to earth person. Both their families are stunning both inside and out. It was such an easy group to spend the day with. By the end, I felt like I belonged to their family and friends and felt myself laughing along with the slideshow of Stacey and feeling like I knew so much about her already. I hope you enjoy a little piece of their day with these few photos. There are so many more that tell their story and this is just a taste…

Tanner and Jess are the couple everyone wishes they could trade places with for a moment. They are beautiful, talented, funny and surround themselves and fantastic people, great wine and food. I “met” Jess on Twitter. We met for coffee and discovered both our boys were from Nanton. Small world.

Here is their story…

Choosing the right wedding photographer…for you

You are newly engaged with the weight of that ring still heavy and noticeable on your left hand. You tell your parents, family and friends. You pick a date, location and church. Then you Google “wedding photographer.”.

A gazillion websites pop up. How do you choose?

1. Ask friends for referrals if they’ve hired a wedding photographer in past. They will be able to tell you if they they enjoyed their experience on the day, prior to and after.

2. Meet with perspective photographers. They should be able to show you extensive portfolios of weddings they’ve photographed. You can also use this meeting to gage personality. After all, this person will spend more time with you on the day than almost anyone else. Make sure you want them around you!

3. Ask questions. Do they have contracts? Back-up equipment? What do they offer for packages? Etc.

4. Choose a photographer that will tell your story. Many photographers use fancy prose on their website to describe how they love taking pictures. That’s fine. However, capturing a wedding is all about photographing an emotional sequence of events. The photography should have symmetry, style and flow throughout the day. Your photographer should be a master at telling your unique story.

If you are looking for someone to capture your story, contact me for your 2012 wedding. I would love to visit over a coffee and hear about your bridal vision.

Alberta Wade

I had to include this storyboard as it’s own post. If you are a social person around these parts, you probably know Wade Rozander. He’s an awesome guy who is known for his entertaining, fine wine, cheese and stories. This series of photos capture the person I believe Wade to be. Wade is a pilot, so I’m making the assumption he is telling some sort of aviation tale here. He was a guest at Howard and Erin Magwood’s wedding earlier this summer when I photographed this.

I was so happy that Howard and Erin asked me to play this important part in their wedding. I met them through my husband and instantly loved their laidback style and easy friendship. Their wedding day was such a reflection of who they both are. Their guests stood around them as they were married overlooking a cliff at the Saskatoon Farm near Okotoks. It was a perfect late afternoon wedding.

Where to begin. Firstly, Terry Kipling and Heather Pickett are such an awesome newly married couple. They met when Heather was a newspaper reporter and Terry was a fireman. Heather chased stories on fires and caught Terry instead. Secondly, these two have amazing families. Third, they had the coolest MC at their reception and the best speeches. I wanted to give a small taste of the gorgeous bride. I will post more in the days to come. Enjoy your Vegas honeymoon!

This is a couple that I liked immediately when I met with them pre-wedding booking. Bryan Smith and the new Mrs. Christine Scherer-Smith are laid back and casual. My kinda people! Even the day of their wedding it was like that! They also couldn’t have chosen a nicer day. It was 26 degrees in October!
